Take Two – Forty Lordy

Hi Stampers,

Remember back in April, I created this card for my brother-in-law’s 40th birthday?

Anyways, when I showed it to my husband, he said to me that you “cannot give that to a 40 year old man.  It is SO dull … it needs some spike to it.”  So, what is “spike” … don’t read on if you are not interested …

Remember this post from yesterday.

This was created after we went camping, and I showed you the versatility of the SU stamp sets.  When I created this card,  I wanted Rod to think that it was just a birthday card and nothing more.  Well on Saturday, May 23, 2009 it was his big 40th Birthday Party.  Rod did not unveil his card until the latter evening.  As I suspected, he thought it was just a hand-made card from his sister-in-law.  When he opened the card up, he was taken by the image and really analyzed the details.  I don’t know how many times he opened and closed the card. …

Yes, it is a naked lady popping out of the cake.  The naked lady is actually a stir stick that my husband found in the drawers, and he said we can use this for his cake.

It took me awhile to figure out how to put her in the cake so that when it opens, she pops straight out.  Much to my surprise, I actually created something that I will never forget.  I used my 1/16 hand held punch to create a small hole for the “stick” to go in.  Once the main part of the cake was assembled, I pushed “stick” through the holes and secured it with red sticky tape.  I finished it off with Retired DSP, added the stars from the Under the Stars stamp set.

This card was a hit at the birthday party.  The guests laughed and said it was the perfect setting for this occasion.  The sentiment was stamped in white craft ink with the saying “I thought and I thought … and then I forgot.  Happy Belated Birthday” from the It’s Your Birthday stamp set.  His actual birthday was May 12.

I am sure that he will keep this card for safekeeping for a long time.

Thanks for stopping by ~ Liz
